My story

Sapper Joseph Doyle was part of the 32nd Light Railway Operating Company of the Royal Engineers, which was responsible for the movement of men, equipment and supplies from the Divisional railheads to the front lines. He died of wounds on 13 October 1917 and is buried at Coxyde Military Cemetery. This cemetery was already in use during the war. As we could not find a war diary of the 32nd Light Railway Operating Company or a Service Record, it is uncertain how Joseph Doyle received his wound(s). As he doesn’t have a Burial Return Sheet it is possible that he was working behind the lines near Coxyde when he got injured and brought to the rear to receive treatment, where he subsequently died and was buried.
