My story
Harry Orme was the son of Elizabeth and Joe Orme. He was born on 5 June 1889 in Glossop, Derbyshire, where he also lived. Before the war he worked as a butcher assistant. Harry enlisted in Glossop, Derbyshire and was part of the 20th Battalion Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) (19th Brigade, 33rd Division).
Harry was killed in action on 28 November 1917 in the aftermath of the Battle of Passchendaele. On 27 and 28 November, Harry’s unit relieved the 1/5th Scottish Rifles in the front area south of Passchendaele. On 28 November, a heavy German barrage killed 51 men of the 20th Battalion Royal Fusiliers.
Harry died at the age of 28 near Tiber, Passchendaele. Harry is buried at Tyne Cot Cemetery.
