My story

Gunner Charles Henry Charnock served in the 120th Battery of the 27th Brigade Royal Field Artillery, of the 5th Division’s Divisional artillery.
On the 13th of October 1917, the 120th Battery was situated near Zouave Wood, between the hamlet of Hooge on the Menin Road and Observatory Ridge. The Headquarters of the artillery Brigade were positioned at Larch Wood. On the following day there was heavy German shelling all around Observatory Ridge and the battery positions of the 27th Brigade Royal Field Artillery.
Gunner Charles Henry Charnock was mortally wounded on the 14th of October 1917. He fell victim due to German shelling on the position of the 120th Battery near Zouave Wood. He was buried in La Clytte Military Cemetery at Loker.
