My story

Lance Corporal Henry “Harry” Kirkley was born on the 26th of June 1888 in Burley-in-Wharfedale, Yorkshire, England to a family of six children. He worked as a motor bus driver. On the 22nd of June 1912 he married his wife Jennie Briddon at Oakworth and had two children Allan and Winifred.

He would eventually come to enlist at Keighley, Yorkshire and joined up with the 402nd Company Mechanical Transport of the Army Service Corps (later the Royal Army Service Corps).

On the 8th of November 1917 he was reported as died of wounds. After the war a marked grave was found near Pagoda Corner (28.C.28.d.1.1.) unfortunately no body could be found. On his Burial Return Sheet is mentioned that digging had taken place but no remains were found. Today he is remembered at Oxford Road Cemetery.
