My story

Ewen (Jack) Taylor, a former gardener, was born on 4 June 1875 in Leeston, Canterbury, New Zealand. He was the son of Ewen and Annie Taylor. He served as a Rifleman with ‘A’-Company, 4th Battalion New Zealand Rifle Brigade, part of the 4th New Zealand (Rifle) Brigade, of the New Zealand Division.

On 1 January 1918 the 4th Battalion New Zealand Rifle Brigade took over the front near Polygon Wood. Their front extended from the Zonnebeke-Beselare road to the left of the divisional sector. On the night of 9/10th January 1918 the Battalion was relieved and moved back to Dickebusch Camp.
