My story

Archibald Harry Aldous was the son of Robert Everett and Selina A. Aldous. He was born in April 1889 in Brackley, United Kingdom. He had 4 siblings: Francis Lidington Aldous (born about 1891), Wilfred Major Aldous (born about 1893), Maud Mary Aldous (born about 1896) and Herrick Grey Aldous (born about 1899). By 1911, he was living in Aston, Warwickshire. Two years later, in 1913, his father Robert died. He worked as a teacher in a council school. In Northampton, Archibald enlisted in the British Expeditionary Force in Northampton. He served in the 4th Battalion Royal Fusiliers (City of London) Regiment (9th Brigade, 3rd Division).

Archibald fell on 21 September 1917 at the Battle of Menin Road Ridge, which lasted from 20 September to 25 September 1917. The battle marked the resumption of the Battle of Passchendaele after an interruption in August due to bad weather. When the weather improved in September, the British army was able to resume the attack. Here, the British attacked the German positions near Geluveld Plateau on both sides of the Ypres-Menin Road. Although most of the objectives in this battle were achieved, the battle still cost many lives.

His body was buried near Hübner Farm. At the time of his death, on 21 September 1917, Archibald was 28 years old. Archibald Harry Aldous is buried in Tyne Cot Cemetery (Plot X, Row G, Grave 2).
