Mon histoire
Private William Pearce, a former farm horseman, served in the 1st Battalion Norfolk Regiment which was part of 15th Brigade, 5th Division.
On the 26th of October the battalion was moved up to the front line near Sterling Castle, but they were relieved two days later on the night 28th. They withdrew to Bedford House near Zillebeke. From their arrival on the 29th till the end of the month they stayed in this position. On the 1st of November the battalion moved back to the firing line at Polderhoek Chateau.
It is unlikely that Private William Pearce, who was reported killed to have been killed on the 30th of October, ever reached Bedford House as his body was found near Surbiton Villas (J.13.b.8.8.), just north of Sterling Castle and 5 kilometres east of Bedford House.
