Mon histoire
Gunner William Henry Emery, a former farmhand from Sheepy Magna, served in the 244th Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery.
Unfortunately, many War Diaries of the Royal Garrison Artillery were lost, so it’s unclear where exactly the 244th Siege Battery was operating and for what purpose. On the 14th of September 1917 no major attack was carried out.
After the war Gunner Emery’s grave was found near a fortified position called ‘Canadian Dugouts’ along the Hogeziekenweg, north of Wieltje and reburied at New Irish Cemetery.
