Mon histoire
"Killed in Action." During operations at Passchendaele, and just prior to zero hour on the morning of October 30th 1917, he established an advanced dressing station in a German pill Box (D.4.a.95.35.) in the front line. After an advance when a number of seriously wounded men were brought in, this dressing station became filled with stretcher cases. Captain Ireland, however, continued tot attend to the wounded in the open, just outside the dressing station, and whilst in the performance of this duty, he was instantly killed by an enemy shell.
