Mon histoire

Benjamin Haythorn was born in October 1890 in Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire, England. He was the son of William Haythorn and Patience Boot. He was married to Beatrice Haythron, and is the father of Eric Haythorn (born on April 15, 1915). He enlisted in Barrow-in-Furness. He served in the 22nd Coy Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), part of the 22nd Infantry Brigade of the 7th Division.

The Battalion attacked together with the 20th and 91st Battalion near Zonnebeke. On this attack, there were 5 casualties in the Battalion. Not much more information could be determined from the available war diaries.

Benjamin, aged 27, was killed in action on October 26, 1917. A memorial cross dedicated to him was found near De Knoet Farm (28.D.28.b.20.40). Private Haythorn has no known grave and is remembered on panel 157 of the Tyne Cot Memorial.
