Mon histoire

On the 22nd of November 1917 the Australian Infantry 53rd Battalion moved from the Chateau Segard Area to the Halfway House Area where it bivouacked in trenches and shelters. The strength of the Battalion was 21 Officers and 676 other ranks. The Battalion remained here in Reserves until the night of 24/25th of September. While in reserve parties from the Battalion were on various tactical working parties, the remainder rested. The Germans shelled the vicinity at periods and caused a number of casualties. On the night of the 24/25th September the Battalion moved into Support in front of Glencourse Wood. Private Cecil William Edwards was probably killed in action due to German shelling on the 23rd of September 1917, while on a working party in the Halfway House area.
