Meine Geschichte

Private Sedge served in the Queen’s Own (Royal West Kent Regiment) 1st Battalion part of the 13th Brigade of the 5th Division. The 13th Brigade participated in the Second battle of Passchendaele on the 26th of October. It was the first day of the attack. The Battalion’s objective was the North of Gheluvelt. The Germans had several strongpoints in this area. At 5.40. am, zero hour, the attack started. The Battalion had to attack enemy strongpoints through the valley of the Scherriabeek. The ground was a bog and in their attempt to push forward, they found themselves under heavy German machine gun- and shell fire which caused numerous causalities. Pte Sedge was most likely one of the casualties in the attempt to cross the valley of the Scherriabeek. His remains were found at the following coordinate 28 J 22 a 72.18, north of Geluveld in the Polderhoek area. He was later reburied at Tyne Cot Cemetery.
