Meine Geschichte
William Samuel Ross Innes, a former painter, was born in 1884 in Old Machar, Aberdeen, Scotland. He was the son of William and Charlotte Innes. He was married to Helen Innes and had two children. He enlisted in Aberdeen. He served in the 18th Battalion Highland Light Infantry, part of the 106th Brigade of the 35th Division.
On October 25, the Battalion was positioned at Houthulst Forest. On the 7th Lincolnshire Battalion and moved to Boezinge. Possibly the Battalion marched through Zonnebeke.
William Samuel Ross, aged 32, was killed in action on October 27, 1917. A memorial cross dedicated to him was found near De Knoet Farm (28.D.28.b.20.40). Corporal Innes has no known grave and is remembered on panel 131 of the Tyne Cot Memorial.
