Meine Geschichte

Ernest Warren Savory was a sergeant of the Royal Field Artillery 93rd Army Brigade B Battery. On the 1st of October 1917 the guns of B Battery moved into action. Their guns were positioned at C.16.a.0.6. North of the Hamlet of Wieltje near Sandowe Farm. On the 4th of October the Battery took part in the bombardment of the German lines East of Poelcappelle in support of the Battle of Broodseinde.
On the 7th of October 1917 one gun of B Battery moved forward to C.6.d.3.1. of Poelcappelle, which proved an impossible task due to the boggy state of the ground. Two more guns were moved forward on the 8th of October. They were also positioned at C.6.d.3.1. near Triangle Farm. But the position was abandoned the same day.
It’s highly probable the Battery was shelled by the German artillery when they were moving forward to Triangle Farm or when they were positioned at Triangle Farm. A Captain and a 2nd Lieutenant of B Battery were killed along with nine other ranks. Six other ranks of B battery were wounded. The Royal Field Artillery 93rd Army Brigade B Battery was withdrawn the next day.
We believe Sergeant Ernest Warren Savory was one of the six other ranks who were wounded due to German shelling near Triangle Farm on the 8th of October 1917. He was buried at Canada Farm Cemetery, which took its name from a farmhouse used as a dressing station during the Third Battle of Ypres.
